The Edmonton Journal estimated that “up to 1,000” people marched through the city’s chilly streets yesterday afternoon to join the rest of the world in protest against corporate thievery and outrageous income inequality. Here are a few shots from the protest.
Most were young…

… but all ages were represented.
Some were serious…
… some were not so serious.
And no one, obviously, told anyone what to say, or how to say it.

For a movement with no message you seemed to capture the fundamental issue uniting them in your headline with little difficulty.
What the world needs is a return to the glorious experiment of communism. Where the people overcome capitalism and are fee to stand in lines in hopes of bread and toilet paper. A sharing of all where every family is free to share a three bedroom state apartment with three generations of their family. A world where people equally share in the misery of life.
The so-called '99%', who somehow number maybe 10,000 in Canada (should have stayed in school meatheads!) just need to get a job, and quit wasting taxpayers' resources that could.better serve the truly needy in Canada.
Dimwits. I sure hope they can't reproduce!
Funny, I have a job... A decent one. And work quite often. I was a business owner and am very well educated. I am protesting when I am not working and this is a cause I believe in. FYI we are not looking at failed models for future change. If you would like to debate this topic, please feel free to do so in an intelligent manner :)
There's nothing to debate. If this was of real meaning to a majority of Canadians, there would have been more involved across the country, and the current deomcratic processes for change in this country would have more people clamouring for change. This circus is will end as soon as the smart phones need recharging and the so-called 'poor, disenfranchised' can't test, tweet, and cry about their oppression.
Well David your blog was the only one that talked about Edmonton and I thank you for that.
I am one of th 99% and I was in the protest and I also have a job. In fact I am a bachelor in civil engineering and I changed carrer to system analyst in 1987 after taking 2 more years of schooling part time while I was working and sustaining my young family. In my definition I am not a bum. I am 100% behind the movement and I do hope that people will be able to change this decrepit system as soon as possible so that our coming generations do not have to live in way worse conditions than we have the privilege to live right now.
By the way anonymous, the communism where people stood in lines to get toilet paper and bread was a Mafia dictatorship. If you want to see what unregulated capitalism can do just get a ticket and move to Brazil for example where I lived for three years.
Most of the people that were in the protest were decent law abiding citizens that care for Canada, democracy and our future.
Anonymous, you should go there and at least talk to the people if you're so interested. I think you will find the most loving, accepting & diverse group of people you have ever met. You may even find you fit in. Everyone is welcome.
@Amanda
I totally agree with you but unfortunately we have to realize where Anonymous is coming from. The old right wing poem 'There is nothing to debate' - you do it our way or you are out, you disenfranchised complainer!
Not too difficult to see why "anonymous" is such. Real middle class and lower class income has not risen in over 20 years. People work harder for less, while speculators reap benefits not created by their own labours. To simply discount attendance numbers as disinterest is pure disinformation. But I am sure your corporate masters are very happy with your towing the corporate line. Tool.
This is an amazing number of people to come down. I am behind them all the way. Don't listen to Anonymous. After all:
first they ignore you
then they laugh at you
then they fear you
then they fight you
then you win!
This protest is important in Alberta. Here it is not about unemployment so much, or bank bailouts. It is about how the whole joint is run by oil companies. At least that is what it is about for me. And with 40 years in power, the C's have gotten a little to cozy with those oil companies. Time for a change!
I've listened to Occupy's commentators and it's nothing more than a joke.
GET A JOB!
@Anonymous: If you're going to post anything own up to what you are saying and at least post your name... Coward. Over 58% of Canadians support the Occupy movement. Someone needs to take their head out of their ass and start paying attention to what's going on around them.
